| | | | Terry Hallock focused on Veterans Day in his sermon, To Those Who Stand Watch on the Wall. Using Nehemiah 4 as his foundation, he preaches a great message on trusting and relying on God in our everyday lives. Here is an excerpt from this sermon:
Nehemiah's success at turning crumbled and melted walls into new barriers against evil were rooted in unswerving obedience to God and a prayer-filled relationship with Him. ''Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome.'' Israel's seventy years of captivity had occurred because she forgot the Lord. Her return and restoration would succeed because she remembered Him again.
I submit to you that it is no different with America. From the first days of our fledgling nation's existence to the present hour of our most recent crisis, America has succeeded when she has been a people after God's heart and she has suffered when she forgot that truth. Alexis DeToquevilled, the French historian who wrote perhaps the most defining description of the new American nation, declared that in his search for the strength of America he found it in her Churches. He wrote, ''America is good because her people are good. If her people cease to be good, America will cease to be great.''
