Jimmy and Ryan Muckenhirn are joined by former special operations medic, James Davenport, and DJ Struntz of North American Rescue to talk all about James’ incredibly interesting life in the armed forces serving as a medic in some of the most hostile environments on the planet. We should note that if anyone out there gets lightheaded from listening to someone talk about traumatic injury and blood, you may not want to listen to this one while operating any heavy machinery! James tells us about why he entered the armed forces, why he chose the path of becoming a special operations medic and gives just a glimpse into the amount of training that was necessary to not only be an extremely effective combat medic, but one that was also a swiss army knife of other skillsets on the battlefield. Finally, we also got the very unique opportunity to listen to his story of not one, but two times encountering improvised explosives in the field, changing his life forever. It truly takes a warrior to have lived through all the experiences James has seen, so when given the opportunity to talk to him all about it, we jumped at the opportunity! John 15:4, NKJV The branches of a vine “abide” by just remaining connected to the vine. Permanently. Consistently. Day after day, week after week, year after year. They simply rest in their position, allowing the sap of the vine to flow freely through them. They exert no effort of their own. The fruit that is subsequently borne on the branch is actually produced by the life-giving sap within. To abide in Christ means to remain connected to Him so completely that the “sap” of His Spirit flows through every part of your being, including your mind, will, and emotions as well as your words and deeds. The “fruit” that you then bear is actually produced by His Spirit in you through no conscious effort of your own. If you and I want to be fruitful, we do not concentrate on fruit-bearing; we concentrate on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. that thing you’re struggling with, that you’ve prayed about over and over

But did you ever think that perhaps God may be using your struggles to change you? To shape you? Even to heal you? For two years I have been asking God to remove the pain in my writing hand. Even as I write these words, I feel stiffness in my thumb, fingers, forearm, and shoulder. The doctors chalk it up to thirty-plus books written in longhand. Over the decades the repeated motion has restricted my movement, rendering the simplest of tasks — writing a sentence on a sheet of paper—difficult.   So I do my part. I stretch my fingers. A therapist massages the muscles. I avoid the golf course. I even go to yoga! But most of all I pray. Better said, I argue.   Shouldn't God heal my hand? My pen is my tool. Writing is my assignment. I'm not Max, the author. I am Max, the guy whose hand is wearing out. I want God to heal my hand.   Thus far He has used my hand to heal my heart.   So that thing you're struggling with, that you've prayed about over and over and over again... could it be that God is using it to heal your heart?   ~Before Amen     Chaos   Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. — 1 Peter 5:7 NIV   Imagine this scene. It is breakfast time, and the family is in chaos. The daughters are complaining about their brother who took too much time in the bathroom. As a result their hair isn't brushed and makeup isn't applied. Mom is doing her best to manage the conflict, but she woke up with a headache and a long list of things to do. The clock is ticking like a time bomb, ever closer to that moment when, boom! It's time to go. Dad stops at the kitchen entryway and surveys the pandemonium. He weighs his options: Command everyone to shape up and behave. Berate his son for dominating the bathroom, his daughters for poor planning, and his wife for not taking control.
