We are calling it, Behold the Man. Those words turned out to be a divine invitation spoken by a seemingly important guy at the time, forever known to the entire world because of his fifteen minutes with the Son of God.  So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, "Behold the man!" John 19:5.  That's what we have been doing together, every single day, for the past four months. Through it all, "The Man" Jesus, has been speaking to us. They serve to memorialize the journey, creating a travelogue of sorts. These journeys together, (over years now with many of you) are establishing a different kind of biblical library—not so much commentaries and reference works as journals of the work of the Word & Spirit in our lives. We are so prone to forget and nothing could be more essential to remember than the living imprints of the Word of God in our lives.  Then there's the mission of "Sowing." We put these series into books so they can be sown into the lives of others. My heart is heavy

I recently received an update from the Bible translation field that I want to share with you. I can sum it up quickly . . .

Dear Friend, My heart is so heavy today—I felt the need to reach out to you and share this information from a country where believers are persecuted.   This is the short version . . .   Right now, two language groups want to faithfully push forward—even in the face of intense persecution—to provide God's Word to their communities in their heart language.   They are committed to starting two translations, and they have reached out for help with the necessary translation tools and resources. As I read what these men and women are facing, I feel compelled to respond to give them the help they need! Read what our program director in this country sent—   "The people in most of the communities are animists: they believe in many gods and are very afraid of the darkness. When some in the community come to Christ, the others see that God made them free, joyful, and hopeful. They see how Christian brothers and sisters do not fear gods/devils, or keep days, time, or evil customs. In addition, they see the love of Christ through the way the Christians live. Through their charity, care, and love—sharing freely without any purpose or condition—they turn their mind to worship the God of these brothers and sisters.   [The translators] want to save more of their people groups for Christ, but they do not know how to explain their faith and Christian terms in ways that their people can understand. Plus, they want to have the Bible in their heart language so that they can understand more about their faith and stand firm before the threats of their families and the local government.   Their families, of course, do not accept their faith. Some believers were kicked out from their own families. Some were forced to worship their old gods and practice evil darkness or keep old customs. One translator was beaten by his own family and villagers.   If the government finds out they are doing Bible translation, these troubles will become more severe. If the local governments from their villages find out, they will mentally and physically torture the Bible translators to find who stands behind the work, who supports them to do the work, etc. and very quickly, they could find me out and bring me the same troubles, too." When I read these words from this field leader, I was so compelled to help! Despite all these troubles, they want to move forward with Bible translation. To help start two new translations in these people groups—longing for God's Word and passionate about sharing the gospel with their communities—requires $39,000. Would you prayerfully consider giving a gift today?
