How to pray in these significant times

SHALOM! "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘These are my appointed festivals, the appointed festivals of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies." (Leviticus 23:2) September is going to be wall-to-wall holidays this year, starting with the Feast of Trumpets on the evening of September 6th through to the last day of Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, on the 28th. The first feast begins at the start of the Jewish month of Tishri, but the month we are currently in, according to the Jewish calendar, is Elul. This is a month of repentance and preparation. There are many grave situations around the globe right now, especially here in the Middle East. Let's take this opportunity to repent and pray for healing and deliverance. Dr. Erez Soref, President of ONE FOR ISRAEL GETTING IN POSITION THE MONTH OF ELUL A time to turn In the Hebrew calendar, Elul is a special month of preparation and repentance before the “Ten Days of Awe” starting with Rosh HaShanah, the Feast of Trumpets, and continuing until Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, ten days later. It’s time to turn our backs on sin and turn towards God again. It’s time to turn away from the world and look to the face of the One who loves and leads us. If we want to say “repent” in Hebrew we say, “Lachzor be Tshuva” – to return to the answer. Actually the two words both imply a return – one is to return as one might go away from home and return later, and the other is from the root word to respond, or reply, to come back with an answer. The word “Elul”, the name of the month, is written like this: אלול – these four letters, in Hebrew, can stand for “Ani LeDodi, VeDodi Li” – “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” – from Song of Songs 6:3. This reminds us of God’s great love for his people – and that this love should be reciprocal. The turning of repentance is like the turning in response to God’s great love and forgiveness – turning away from sin and the world, into the embrace of our God who loves us. DHS to Serve as Lead Federal Agency Coordinating Efforts to Resettle Vulnerable Afghans

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY Office of Public Affairs DHS to Serve as Lead Federal Agency Coordinating Efforts to Resettle Vulnerable Afghans Secretary Mayorkas Announces Robert J. Fenton, Jr. as Senior Response Official WASHINGTON – President Biden has directed the Secretary of Homeland Security to have his department serve as the lead agency coordinating ongoing efforts across the federal government to resettle vulnerable Afghans, including those who worked on behalf of the United States.  Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced that Robert J. Fenton, Jr. will lead the interagency Unified Coordination Group. The Unified Coordination Group will report directly to Secretary Mayorkas and will include a broad range of services throughout the resettlement process, from initial immigration processing, COVID-19 testing, and isolation of COVID-positive individuals for anticipated quarantine, to resettlement support for individuals who are neither U.S. citizens nor lawful permanent residents. The resettlement support will include initial processing at pre-designated U.S. military bases prior to being resettled into communities. "The Department of Homeland Security is prepared to serve as the lead federal agency coordinating efforts across the federal government to welcome vulnerable Afghans to our Nation in a way that is consistent with our laws and our values," said Secretary Mayorkas. "This mission reflects the best of who we are as a country and our Department is honored by the trust the President has placed in us. There is no one better than Bob Fenton to help lead our efforts. Bob has dedicated his career to public service and has decades of experience managing complex and critically important missions. He will help lead this interagency effort with incredible adeptness and the highest standards of honor and integrity." The Unified Coordination Group will ensure federal resources, authorities, and expertise are utilized in a unified and synchronized manner to support the goals of the operation. This initiative will be undertaken in close collaboration with DHS partners in state and local government and with non-governmental organizations and the private sector. "I am honored by the confidence placed in me and I am privileged to be able to contribute to this vital mission," said Fenton. Fenton has served as FEMA's Regional Administrator for Region IX since 2015. During the presidential transitions of 2017 and 2021, Fenton served as Acting FEMA Administrator. Since joining FEMA in 1996, Fenton has played a significant and senior role in numerous large-scale response and recovery operations in the United States and has responded to more than 100 federal disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, the four Florida Hurricanes of 2004, Southern California Wildfires of 2003 and 2007, Super Typhoon Pongsona in Guam, and the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attacks.  # # #
