SHALOM! "He is the guarantee of our inheritance, until the redemption of His possession—to His glorious praise!" (Ephesians 1:14) Resurrection Day is the Festival of Firstfruits: the day after the Shabbat of Passover. Jesus has gone before us, the first to be permanently raised from the dead! And we will follow. As we are now just finishing the Passover holiday week, we reflect on how the the Bible is a story of past, present and future. We have been redeemed, yet we wait eagerly for the redemption of all things. The Messiah has come and at the same time we long for His return. We often interpret prophecy as fulfilled in Yeshua's first coming... but there is much more to come! ‌ EXODUS & REVELATION ELIJAH IN THE PASSOVER Ushering in the Great Redemption It is Passover tradition to have an extra place at the seder table for the prophet Elijah. I saw a Passover haiku (form of short poetry) which read: On Passover we Opened the door for Elijah Now our cat is gone. It’s a fun part of the celebration to expect Elijah at this time: we leave the door open, call his name, and prepare a place for him in expectation. Why? What has Elijah got to do with Passover? He came about 500 years after the Exodus from Egypt. The first Passover is thought to have happened 3,333 years ago this year, and Elijah died in 849 BC. How did he get mixed up in all of this? Understanding Elijah’s part in Passover is impossible if we do not understand the Jewish concept of ‘geula’ or redemption (גאולה). CONTINUE READING... RESURRECTION SUNDAY Singled out in the Torah The holidays point so clearly to Jesus. His connections with Passover are well-known to most of us. But did we know that the Sunday of his resurrection is also singled out in the Torah? The origin of First Fruits is in Leviticus 23, the chapter which provides the fullest description of all the holy days of Israel. Today's Scripture But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9, NKJV) Distinctive Favor The Scripture speaks of how you are set apart, one of God's special people. I like the phrase "a different people." You're not ordinary; you're not like everyone else. The favor God puts on your life causes you to be different. It makes a distinction between you and those who don't honor God. Numbers 6 says God's face will shine on you and cause you to stand out. This distinctive favor causes you to prosper when others are struggling. You recover from a difficulty when others get stuck. You have an advantage. You're not doing life by yourself, just on your own strength, your talents, and your connections. There is a force breathing behind you, guiding you, protecting you, and favoring you. The Most High God has set you apart, called you out, and said, "That's one of Mine." Don't go through life thinking that you're average, that you can never accomplish your dreams. Put your shoulders back. Hold your head high. Right now, God's face is shining on you.
