To sign up for the event, please click here.  A Special Message from the AAPLOG Board Chairman  Greetings to you all!  I hope this update finds you all well this weekend as we celebrate the blessing of new life.  Two weeks ago, your board of directors held a board meeting and it was an exhilarating time as we discussed the launch of our new strategic plan that I believe will allow AAPLOG to help you, our members, and our patients in the next 3 years in ways we've never been able to before.   I'm sure I don't need to tell you that this support and advocacy is needed now more than ever before.  Despite the many challenges we face, I believe that the need for pro-life, pro-Hippocratic physicians has never been greater.  I was recently reminded of the quote 'If not us, who.  If not now, when?' Let's let these words encourage us to continue to fight for the integrity of medicine and for the health of our patients.   Part of our plans for the next three years involved developing a new Committee structure and expanding our subsections - all to facilitate the work we can do on your behalf and with your help.  Over the next few months, we will be introducing these to you, along with our board of directors.  Stay tuned!   - Christina Francis, MD, Chair of the Board Possible Upcoming Title X Rule Change  The Biden administration has announced its intent to change the Title X Protect Life Rule change to return to Clinton-era rules that, among other things, mandate abortion referrals in violation of the Weldon amendment. There is an exception for the new proposed rule to come out mid-April, and will work to mobilize grassroots along with allies to provide comments opposing the new rule. This is the same rule, you may recall, in which the Protect Life Rule successfully defunded Planned Parenthood of >$50 million in federal funds, because they refused to comply with the commonsense rules. New Conscience Protections Passed in Arkansas  Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson signed legislation giving health care workers and institutions the right to not participate in non-emergency treatments that violate their conscience, a win for medical professionals seeking to practice medicine according to their values and the Hippocratic Oath. The conscience provision allows providers to cite conscience for not performing types of treatment, but couldn't use it for targeting specific groups of patients. The Medical Ethics and Diversity Act, co-sponsored by AAPLOG member Joe Cloud, can be read in full here.  New Article from The Daily Signal: "My Friend Was Pressured to Have an Abortion After Scan Showed Chance of Disability"  The Daily Signal published an article this week focused on the pressure women face from medical professionals to abort following prenatal diagnoses of medical conditions. The piece outlines the story of a women close to the author who was pressured to terminate her pregnancy by a physician using the arguments of possible high medical costs and cognitive issues as the reasons for encouraging pregnancy termination - even after the mother clearly stated her opposition to the procedure.  The piece references a study from the medical journal "Critical Care Medicine" that shows that what doctors tell patients about their child's prognosis is often influenced by their own attitude towards neurological impairment. This poor treatment can be a source of lasting trauma for women - and instead of pressuring women to abort, medical professionals should approach mothers with compassion, support, and every option available to save their child - not with unrelenting pressure to abort their child.  The full version of the article can be found here.  This story shows the importance of the work AAPLOG and its members are doing to protect the sanctity of life, and in that, preserving the rights of women to become mothers.
