I wanted to share two other things that Greek students find helpful to develop their Greek further.

First, as I mentioned in the last email, simply having a community of learners is helpful.

Now you might argue that Facebook provides plenty of communities learning Greek, what makes this one different? Here are three things that members have been telling me.

Shared progress

Everyone inside the MNTG community is on the same path toward the same clear goal. That is, to read the Greek New Testament fluently. To achieve this we're using the same systematic approach, meaning we can identify with where each other are up to, see clearly how much progress we're making and encourage each other along the way.

When you can see that you're making progress, and you see others making progress on the same path, you find yourself inspired and motivated to keep going.

Quick help

Sometimes you have a question, and the community is often the fastest way to get that help because others are on the same journey and have asked and/or answered the same question previously.

Shared Insights

As we read the New Testament in Greek, we often get insights, and many share these insights in the community leading to a greater appreciation of the text, and how the Lord uses it to change and grow us.

Recommended Resources

Being on the same path, when someone mentions a resource, it often has significant short term benefit. Moreover, we can be more assured of its relevance because it has benefitted someone doing exactly what we're doing. This makes the whole task much more efficient than learning alone.

Reading Academy

Speaking of resources, the second thing that members find helpful is the Reading Academy inside the Community Membership. Each month we read a book that in some way will augment our reading of scripture. Some of these are theological, explaining the doctrine of sola scriptura. Others are related to things directly relevant to Greek, such as Constantine Campbell's Basics of Verbal Aspect.

Reading is entirely optional, but throughout the month, members are sharing what they've learned or been reminded of as they read, and we all grow more as a community because of it.

At the end of each book, we join a live call to discuss what we've read, what we've appreciated about the book and things we disagreed with or had trouble understanding. These are fun calls and help us reinforce what we've read and apply it.
