“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.”
Titus 3:4-5a
Peace invades life when we know God’s will and obey His commands. When Jesus spoke of the most important command (see Mark 12:29), He wasn’t implying the other commandments were unimportant. Rather, every part of the law is encompassed by loving the Lord with all our heart, mind, and strength. Think of how much He loved us to give His own life to save us! So we love and honor Him for His sacrifice.
Poet Maya Angelou (1928-2014) once said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” There is wisdom in those words. Valuing others is part of loving our neighbor as ourselves. The wrongs we have said and done are forgiven only in the mercy of the God who loves us.
If we want our faith to be “attractive” (see Titus 2:10), Paul’s letter to Titus (especially chapters 2 and 3) instructs us concretely in how we can show “true humility toward all men” (3:2). Make this a priority in your life, and feel God’s peace wash over you.
