I did not want to miss sharing something truly miraculous in the midst of the Afghanistan crisis, ... | | webmaster220, For the past few weeks all eyes have been on Afghanistan. So much is still happening there behind the scenes, and I will continue to share key updates with you. Your prayers and support have been a huge blessing during this trying time. Thank you! In the midst of this crisis, however, I did not want to miss sharing some truly miraculous news with you. With some of the restrictions on gatherings lifting, we recently hosted 100+ Christian converts at our first Spiritual Retreat this year. What a joy it was for our Field Ministry Team and these persecuted believers to meet and worship together. Most of the attendees were refugees from Syria, now living in Lebanon. These refugee families had all come to faith in Christ over the past few years. Other attendees were families we helped following the explosion in Beirut. All in attendance face persecution for their faith. Our team is praising God for bringing together a community of former Muslims who now live for Christ, and who have now experienced the community of the Body of Christ in person. Seif shared this with our team: “I lost my brother two months ago. Today in Christ, I have more brothers than I can imagine. I feel like I am home among my family!” | During this time together, our team focused on discipleship of these new believers, as they sought the Lord for healing and hope. These Christians were also ready to declare their faith “out loud.” And though baptism of converts is illegal and must be cautiously done, we provided a safe space for this to happen. Our Field Ministry Team leader who has been working in the Middle East for decades told us he wept as he watched family after family be baptized. He said he had never seen anything like this before. | | | | | Above: The 49 baptized converts, extended family, and our team gathered for this photo. We are excited to share that another Spiritual Retreat is planned for this fall in Iraq ministering to women still healing from the terror of war and ISIS. Please join us in praying for this upcoming retreat and praising God for the baptism of our brothers and sisters in this hostile region. | | | | Joshua Youssef President and CEO | | | | | | | | |
