Jesus came healing and performing miracles. But Matthew 8 tells of a whole region that begged Him to leave their area. Why on earth would anyone in their right mind turn away the very Son of God? Now we can sit back in aloof judgment of the actions of those people that day. Or, we can humble ourselves and consider the Scriptures with an eye for instruction. Maybe we could avoid making a grave mistake and miss our moment with the Lord.
Many still resist opening the door of their hearts to the walk that Christ wants to share with us. The Bible wasn´t written only to tell us of some things that happened to people once upon a time. Instead, it holds the power to bring souls into the presence of God. We can all draw nearer to our Lord. We can grow closer each day. A healthy relationship forever seeks more intimacy and fuller faith.
The ones who are determined not to lose this chance of engaging with our God will examine where we stand now. What others missed before will frighten us. What if God wants more and we are pushing Him off too? We are no better if we cannot get worked up enough to get worked up and kindle the fire of desire again. The Lord will work miracles again. But only for those who don´t keep kicking Him out!
Dear Jesus, we come to ask You for help. We have busy schedules and live in a wildly paced world. But we see our need to turn away and look to You. Please show us how to embrace You instead of turning You away. Grow within us a great need to know that we are open to You in every way and that You are truly with us. Amen
