Staying in Your Lane This content is drawn from: 1 Corinthians 12:12-30 “But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.” 1 Corinthians 12:18 When I was a young pastor, I had a tendency to rush in and try to save the day when someone in my flock experienced trouble. I quickly found that this exposed two problems: First, some issues were far beyond my ability to address; and second, I seemed to be constantly exhausted. I remember on one occasion when I had come to the end of myself, I heard God say to me, “You are no one’s savior; they already have one of those. And His name is Jesus.” We would all do well to remind ourselves of the very thing Paul had to remind the believers in Corinth: There is one body, many parts. It’s God’s responsibility to save people and our responsibility to “stay in our lane.” God has sought us out to play roles in His kingdom work, but He has not ordained that one person do it all. Watch and see how the Lord brings people in to accomplish the work in the body of Christ. We may be dismayed, thinking we would do the job better than someone else. But God has in fact placed us all according to our abilities just as He wants us to be. “Perhaps only when human effort had done its best and failed, would God’s power alone be free to work.” (Corrie ten Boom, 1971) |
