Dear Friends,
Last week I announced our newest ministry project: Producing a discipleship/devotional book based on our animated film, The Pilgrim's Progress. It will be called The 16 Worlds of The Pilgrim's Progress: The Journey Begins.
We are very excited about this new project and we were encouraged by the hundreds of positive responses we received. Some even signed up as Patron Producers and will find their name (or the name of a loved one) in the book!
We also received a number of questions concerning TABS and iBIBLE and how this new project may affect our current projects. Today I want to take a moment to answer the two most common questions. The first of these questions is:
|
|
"What Has Come of THE ANIMATED BIBLE SERIES 'TABS'?"
When I first began creating a visual narrative of the entire Bible, I was producing videos on DVDs. We completed the first three episodes. I remember sharing the vision with a well-to-do Christian businessman, who challenged me with three questions.
He asked:
- Is this the right project?
- Is it in the right format?
- Are you the right person to do the project?
While I found his attitude a little off-putting, these were fair questions. I answered:
- YES, this is absolutely the right project. The world desperately needs a Biblical narrative, and none exist.
- I don't know if this is the right format, and if God shows me a better way, I am happy to change it.
- There are hundreds of well-funded and talented individuals and organizations that could do this. I am just willing.

As time went on, God did show me a better format. When The Pilgrim's Progress movie was being released, I created an animated version of the book. Each page contained text and dramatic audio and about 45 seconds of animation. We were shocked by the feedback we were receiving. People loved it! I sat my millennial-aged, ADHD son down and asked him to watch it. And then I watched him as he watched the animated book. Again, I was shocked. For 20 minutes his eyes didn't leave the presentation. I don't think I had ever seen him so engaged in one of my projects.
I then met with my sister-in-law who was teacher of the year in our community. I asked her to watch the presentation and tell me what she thought. She replied, "This is exactly what our kids need. As teachers, we want our students to engage with books and not just videos. This is a video and a book and will hold the viewer's attention! This is perfect!" |

We realized by making the video into an animated and interactive book (the users have to turn the page each 40 seconds), they would be far more engaged. And the animated portions would hold their attention. It was a winning combination. |
|
I went to Deb and was literally shaken to my core. She started asking me what was wrong. I said, "I now know exactly the format TABS should be in. It should be an animated book!"
We committed to pray for six weeks before saying anything to the team. Changing a format after a project had begun would be no easy task. And it wasn't!
After the six weeks, we knew with certainty what we had to do. An animated book in a phone app opened the door to reach 5 billion phones world-wide and opened the door for a semi-open source translation allowing it to be the first project of its kind ever to break the language barrier. We could reach all 7,000 living languages! It also gave us the opportunity to add an interactive resource section at the end of each of its 150 (estimated) chapters. |
|
We announced to the team what God had shown me and over the next year we transitioned from TABS to iBIBLE. As I mentioned, it was very difficult. I really felt a strong spiritual attack on our team, and we lost some supporters, funding decreased, and we even lost some of our animation team.
However, I had 100% confidence we were going the right direction and stayed the course. Now we are close to releasing the first version of iBIBLE on the iPhone. It will also be in book (print) format and on DVD.
If you have donated to TABS, and for those who continue to donate monthly, your contributions are being put towards iBIBLE. We are so thankful for your faithful support, allowing us to bring the one story of the Bible to our children, grandchildren, and people around the world. |
|
So, TABS has been upgraded to iBIBLE. Same vision to animate the entire Biblical narrative, in a much more effective format and platform.
"Will the new 16 Worlds of The Pilgrim's Progress slow down the iBIBLE production?"
The answer is, absolutely not. The iBIBLE is being produced at our studios in Costa Rica where a team of 15 full-time artists and animators are solely focused on the iBIBLE. The 16 Worlds of The Pilgrim's Progress will be produced in the USA with a different team, under the direction of the same creative directors. This will allow for the same high quality of product that does not impede on the iBIBLE project whatsoever.
I was encouraged by the question because I realized that our RevelationMedia family has caught the vision of what we are called to accomplish, and you faithfully want to see it come to fruition!
Going back to the businessman's three questions:
- YES, this iBIBLE is the right project.
- YES, it is now in the right format.
- YES, I am the one to lead this project as God is surrounding me with Christians from around the world who are praying, encouraging, offering good counsel and financially supporting the vision. Together we will produce content that can reach young and old and to the ends of the earth!
Thank you again for your support. We will be sharing more about The 16 Worlds of The Pilgrim's Progress in the weeks to come. If you would like to know more about iBIBLE, please visit our website www.i.bible. There is a short video on the homepage where I demonstrate our working prototype.
Thanks again for being part of the RevelationMedia family. It is proving to be quite an adventure! And have a very blessed Sunday.
