"God created a plan that you could never achieve on your own." — Jada Edwards
Galatians: The Hidden Power of Acceptance
by Jada Edwards, from the brand-new study Galatians: Accepted and Free
Welcome to Bible Study of the Week, where every Sunday we give you the free first sessions of new video Bible studies from leading authors, pastors, and Bible teachers. Jada Edwards is the women's pastor at One Community Church in Plano, Texas, where she teaches a mid-week Bible study to over 1,300 women, equipping them with practical truth to help them live more genuine lives. She also puts her MBA to use leading the creative services team that keeps the church culturally relevant. Here's video 1 of her brand-new 6-session study on Galatians.
Opening Activity (10–15 minutes)
Meeting with a group? Here's what you'll need:
◃ Sheet of blank paper for each person
◃ Several packets of colored pencils or crayons
Invite participants to sketch, or summarize in a few words, a memory in which they felt acutely unaccepted.
On the flip side of the paper, invite participants to do the same regarding a memory in which they felt acutely accepted. Discuss the following: Briefly describe each image. What are some of the negative effects of feeling unaccepted? What are some of the positive effects of feeling wholly accepted?
Scripture covered in this Session:
Galatians 1:1–24
Session One Video (23 minutes)
Notes: As you watch, take notes on anything that stands out to you.
The letter of Galatians embodies a sense of urgent, direct language.
God created a plan that you could never achieve on your own.
Any alteration to the Gospel is a complete distortion of the Gospel.
How many times do we doubt the authority that God has given us?
Followers of Jesus Christ are called into unpopular situations.
Distort means "to transpose."
It doesn't matter if you have a history of great decisions or ones you're not proud of, God has a calling for you.
Personal testimony shows us that God doesn't do things without reason.

The Book of Galatians is a passionate letter written by the apostle Paul explaining what it really looks like to be followers of Jesus Christ. Paul is adamant in his letter that the gospel is all we need to know and to live truly free – that Jesus is enough and nothing needs to be added. There is certain and specific freedom in receiving our acceptance in Christ and that freedom gives us authority, assignment, adoption, and restoration like nothing else!
God loved you so much that he created a plan that you could never have achieved on your own. And when you don't get that, you find yourself subject to the bondage that you were in before you even knew Jesus. What you'll see as Jada walks you through Galatians is Paul giving a very passionate and urgent assurance, helping you understand that once you place faith in Jesus, you are transformed. You are made new. You are forever a part of the family of God. You are fully accepted, and you are free.
