The Son of the Most High Advent Part 4 | | "Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus." –Luke 1:31 [ESV] | | For many people, including some of our friends and family, Christmas means nothing more than a time to be of good cheer and give presents to one another. They may sing along to songs about Mary and the baby in a manger, but in their hearts, they do not believe the Christmas story. Even as Christians, we have questions, fears, and doubts at times. The account of a virgin birth, angels, wise men, and a star set in the East are so miraculous that we are reminded of what faith means: believing that God's Word is true, even when we don't understand or have all the answers. The Bible says that when God sent the angel Gabriel to Galilee to visit the virgin Mary, she was troubled at the sight of him. Imagine yourself in Mary's position, wondering what is going to happen next. But the angel said to her: "Do not be afraid, Mary...you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High." —Luke 1:30–32 However, Mary still had questions. She wondered how this could be possible since she was still a virgin. Upon hearing Gabriel's explanation that she would conceive through the Holy Spirit, Mary does something very surprising—she responds with faith and obedience: "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." —Luke 1:38 Although fear and disbelief are natural for us, we can overcome these obstacles with obedience to God. When we find ourselves worrying about our lives and things we cannot fix, we can have faith and trust in God. He does not want us to be afraid. This Christmas, let's remember that although Mary did not seem to have all the answers, she submitted those questions to the Lord and trusted in His plan. We, too, can walk in obedience because we see that, through Mary's story, God's plans are purposeful, and His promises are true. In this season, the miraculous and the ordinary collide. True Love—Jesus—came to all people in the most vulnerable way possible to break the curse of sin and rescue us from death. Remember that in this season, you do not need to be a Christian to enjoy the graces of good food, beautiful music and twinkling lights. But, the true miracle of this season cannot be fully experienced unless we allow the miracle of the birth of Jesus to wash over us and fill us with true joy. Please, share the Christmas story with those you love this season and be sure to feel the wonder, wherever you are, that God's promises are as true for you as they were for the mother of Jesus. | | Scene from iBIBLE where the dove returns to Noah in the ark iBIBLE will be the first visual interpretation of God's Divine narrative—the story that reveals God's sovereignty played out from Genesis to the final Revelation.
