Good Friday marks the day Jesus willingly laid down His life for ours. The darkest day in history led to the most triumphant, just three days later. In the sacrificial love Jesus displayed for all of us on Good Friday, He revealed truths that we stand on as a life-affirming community.
Jesus Values Every Life
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb."
—Psalm 139:13
God has always valued human life. Before Jesus faced the cross, He began life formed and grown in Mary's womb. His incarnation is a powerful reminder that life matters from womb to tomb.
But even more, His death reminds us of the worth of each soul. He died not for a crowd, but for each of us. Individual human beings created in His image.
We fight for life because we believe every individual is precious to God. Jesus, God's own Son, gave His life so that we could have the chance at eternal life with Him. His sacrifice is our why.
He Died So We Could Live Abundantly
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
—John 10:10
Jesus' story is one of great sacrifice so that we might live abundantly, not just in eternity, but even here on Earth.
And that's the heart of the life-affirming movement: that every person would know abundant life.
That women facing the impossible decision of an unplanned pregnancy would be met with hope, even in what feels like their darkest hour.
That like Jesus, they could look ahead and see the redemption waiting for them.
That life—full, beautiful, and abundant—isn't over. It's just beginning.
We All Need His Redemption
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
—Romans 5:8
There are no exceptions when it comes to our need for the blood of Jesus. We all need His sacrifice to be welcomed into the Kingdom of God.
So, when we meet women who are post-abortive or facing an unplanned pregnancy, we don't show up with judgment. We come with compassion, because we know what it's like to be in need of grace.
Through Jesus, we can extend the hope of healing, forgiveness, and a future.
"For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
—Colossians 1:13–14
None of the work we do in the life-affirming movement would be possible without the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Today, we honor His death. But even more, we remember the passion in His heart that led Him to die for you—and for every life we fight to protect.
His death gave us life.
Now we live to honor it.
