Emergency prayer in Israel

SHALOM!

"For such a time as this..." (Esther 4:14)

Understanding that just like Esther, we cannot remain silent at this time, we sent out an emergency call for prayer last week, asking all of Israel's congregations to pray for relief and deliverance for our nation. Esther sent the message to Mordecai to go and gather all of the people of Israel to fast and intercede for three days, so in like manner we have taken the opportunity as we approach Purim to send out a call to all believers in the Land to pray in unity. We are facing two big crises: the first is the Covid crisis and how life will develop going forward, and the second is the looming fourth round of elections (in two years!).

EMERGENCY PRAYER FOR ISRAEL

Standing in the Gap

We will soon get to a point of somewhat 'back to normal' in Israel. We don't yet know what it will look like, and which challenges it will bring, so we wanted to call everyone together to pray. And not just for that, but for our country, our people, and our leaders. We will soon have a fourth election, so we should unite, at least through prayer and fasting.

Together with ONE FOR ISRAEL, two alumni of our Senior Pastor's MA Program, Meno Kalisher and Yossi Ovadia, were among the main instigators who helped get the prayer initiative off the ground.

“The idea had been discussed for a while, and we were thinking of when and how we wished to announce it,” said Pastor Yossi Ovadia. “As we were praying and thinking about it, Dr. Erez Soref called me and suggested we call for a day of fasting and prayer. We elected a suitable date and how to phrase the invitation. Just as we were doing this, Meno Kalisher called me and suggested the same thing, and I told him we are already working on it.”

It is a real time of crisis for our nation, and we urgently need to turn to God for help.

PRAYER IS A VIP PASS

The God who goes through walls

Omnipresent and omnipotent, God can work wonders anywhere, anytime, and with anyone. We can ask Him to act. We can ask Him to move in the highest echelons of society, or indeed the lowest. He can sit among the students in the strictest yeshiva in Jerusalem, and He can meet Muslims in the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. He can go into cabinet meetings in the Knesset, or march right into the Hamas headquarters in Gaza. He can be in the Queen’s chambers in Buckingham Palace, or a corrugated iron shack in a Brazilian favela.

Moreover, we can ask God for His insight into what is really going on behind the scenes. Truth is getting harder and harder to discern, but God sees it all. He knows who said what, who did what, and what is going on in the hearts and minds of leaders around the world. He also knows what is coming next. We need to keep our ears trained to the throne and our eyes fixed on our Master, ready to perceive His movements and act in line with His will.

Don’t neglect this extraordinary treasure you have in your possession: your two-way VIP prayer pass. All authority has been given to Jesus, and He has invited us to enter the very throne room of God.

ESTHER THE INTERCESSOR

Confidence to come...

Esther speaks up on behalf of her people, and the myrtle in Scripture is a picture of intercession. In the story, she asks the Jewish people to back her up with three days of prayer and fasting and then dares to go boldly into the throne room, hoping she will find grace. And the kind king does indeed hold out his sceptre to her, inviting her to approach with confidence. In that meeting, she finds favour in his eyes, and he encourages her to ask for whatever she likes, even up to half the kingdom.

If you are wondering where the pages that contained the words "excerpt", "Introducing" or other words indicating I was quoting a book have all gone, I migrated all of them over to Posts and Posted them all on August 18 and August 19 2024. I did that so you could use the search widget that is built in to the blog on the upper right hand corner. You will be happy to know that there are more of them than just the batch that were migrated, there were also lots of posts that contained the same words that did not have to be migrated over, they were there all along. I am really enjoying doing introductions and excerpts because it really makes for powerful and fascinating reading when I do them. You get the feeling you are in a bookstore holding a book in your hand looking at the table of contents and deciding whether or not to buy the book.

Despite his status as one of the most influential and intelligent Christian authors of the 20th century, C.S. Lewis never thought of himself as a professional theologian. While he was well-read in many types of literary genres, he did not go to Seminary to obtain a Masters in Theology and study a year of Old Testament Hebrew and New Testament Greek. He was not a Pastor who preached sermons to a congregation for many years but a raw, honest philosopher and professor of literature who wrote as well as any Christian of his time could. He had a gift for clearly articulating his perspectives on a variety of issues. Above all, he was humble, in that he had an honest evaluation of both his strengths and his weaknesses. I believe this is one of the main reasons why he is still so enjoyable to read even after all these years. In terms of his theology, Lewis himself said he was an “Anglican but not especially ‘high,’ nor especially ‘low,’ nor especially anything else.” So the theology of C.S. Lewis is not something one can immediately discover by simply perusing a certain book of his to see exactly where he stands on certain doctrinal issues; it is much more subtle and convoluted than that. But in this book, you will find his different thoughts from his many books about certain Christian doctrines and topics pieced together in an easy-to-follow format (Lewis has written nearly 60 books but none of them are on systematic theology). This book offers very clear depictions of his theology concerning subjects such as the doctrine of inspiration, original sin, human depravity, human origins, evolution, intelligent design, theodicy, love and marriage, redemption, grace, new creation, and grief, as his authentic reaction to God after his wife’s death is conveyed. The final chapters also contain all of his greatest quotes arranged and sorted by topic as well as excerpts, quotes, and summaries from most of his books in a quick, easy-to-read, bullet-point format. These last two sections are a particularly great resource to draw from as you can quickly learn about the main points Lewis conveys in his bestselling books.

I tried the words "he was sorry" and the resulting block of search results was these two verses:
Matt 14:9 ESV

Sometimes you get to start the search over on the host website to get all the results. I was unable to execute a search on the host website until I logged in, then I ran the search on "mine" and got around 500 verses in the Darby version
