When Gate and his wife trusted in Christ, they were kicked out of his parents' home and experienced further hardships. Still, their faith in Christ did not waver.
| | | “Renounce Christ or Leave” | After hearing about Jesus Christ while visiting a neighboring province in Laos, Gate returned there with his severely ill wife and their child to hear the gospel. The family placed their faith in Christ, and Gate’s wife was soon completely healed.
But when Gate’s parents and the head of the village heard about his new Christian faith, they demanded that he renounce Christ or leave the village. Gate and his wife stood firm in their faith, so Gate’s parents kicked them out of the house, where they and their child had been living.
With no place to live, Gate started building a home for his family on farmland he owned in a village about a mile away. But when the village leader heard about it, he threatened to have Gate arrested if he didn’t stop construction. VOM heard about Gate’s situation and helped provide food and assistance to him and his family while they await permission to resume construction on the house.
| | Despite the hardships, Gate’s faith has not wavered. “Gate is not scared and is willing to face any persecution,” a VOM worker said. “Gate sees that the Lord is real and that His power healed his wife. Gate is strong in his faith. Do pray for them!”
Like Gate, many Laotian Christians are persecuted by family members or village authorities who believe Christians will offend the animistic spirits of their tribal religions. Believers are often expelled from their homes and driven from their villages because of their faith in Christ.
