The Staff of Life By Billy Graham • September 20 “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” —Psalm 119:11, NKJV The Bible isn’t just another great book. It is God’s Word, given by God to tell us about Himself. Peter declared, “We did not follow cunningly devised fables . . . for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:16, 21). Paul stressed, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). I have known many outstanding leaders who made the Bible their guide. The late Herbert J. Taylor, businessman and former president of Rotary International, told me he began each day by reading the Sermon on the Mount aloud. Let the Bible be your firm foundation. Let it be the staff of life that nourishes your soul. Let it be the sword of the Spirit that cuts away sin. Many years ago I heard these words: “Sin will keep you from God’s Word—or God’s Word will keep you from sin!” Hope for Today The Bible has wisdom for every situation you encounter, every decision you must make, and every moral dilemma you face. God’s Word has an answer to all of life’s questions. | ||
