Noun: מְאֹד (mᵉʾod), GK 4394 (S <H3966>), 300x. mᵉʾod is usually used adverbially, meaning “very, much, greatly, exceedingly.” For example, the people of Sodom “were wicked and were sinning against the Lord exceedingly” (Gen. 13:13). See greatly.
New Testament
Adverb: περισσοτέρως (perissoteros), GK 4359 (S <G4056>), 12x. perissoteros describes an action as being “exceedingly, beyond measure, more than might be expected.” Paul claims he is more a servant of Christ than others because he has labored exceedingly, was imprisoned more often, and was beaten exceedingly (2 Cor. 11:23; cf. 2 Cor. 12:15; Gal. 1:14; Heb. 2:1; 13:19). In response to his imprisonment, many Christians proclaim the truth of Jesus more courageously and fearlessly (Phil. 1:12). By God’s grace Paul acts with exceeding sincerity and holiness toward the Corinthians (2 Cor. 1:12; cf. 7:15), and he writes with “much” love for them (2 Cor. 2:4). Paul is extremely eager to see the faces of the Thessalonians but has been prevented by Satan (1 Thess. 2:17; cf. 2 Cor. 7:13). See NIDNTT-A, 454-55.*[1]
