How many times have we asked, "God, what are you doing?" You see Him at work. You do what He asked, and yet, you don't fully understand His purpose, or how all the pieces are going to come together.
In Isaiah 55:8-9, our verses for today, clearly demonstrate that God's plan is so much more than anything we could ever understand. His knowledge and wisdom are beyond us. Our own limited thinking often compels us to try to fit God into our mold of life. The phrase, think outside the box, is where God resides.
Think about Jesus' birth and how Herod responded. He felt threatened. He thought Jesus came to take his physical throne. In Matthew 2:16, Herod ordered all the baby Hebrew boys killed in hopes of getting rid of a rival that might someday take his throne. Jesus didn't want to take the physical throne but wanted to become the king of Herod's life.
Sometimes when God asks us to do something, we can erroneously feel like He is trying to take something away from us, when in fact, He's trying to give us something much more than we can ever imagine "He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted" (Job 5:9 NIV).
God's plans and purposes will never conform to ours. We were created to reside inside of His purposes and plans.
Today's One Thing
How have you tried to fit God into your purposes and plans? Take time today in prayer to:
- Surrender completely to God's purposes and plans.
- Confess (verbally) your trust, confidence and willingness to follow Him.
- Admit it is okay to obey, not knowing where you're going, as long as you're following Him.
