Dear Friends,
I have been avoiding writing about the current civil unrest, protests and racism facing our nation, as I simply didn't know what to say. I am obviously extremely concerned, and at the same time I don't want to be simply noise as we are all trying to untangle the many sides of this situation. Even Debra advised me not to say anything. She said, "Honey, no matter what you say you will upset 10,000 people!" And of course, she may be right.
However, while I was praying, I felt the Lord lead me to draw on my own experiences and share with you where I draw my own inspiration. Ironically, some of the very resources we have made available recently, feel more important now, than ever.
We recently launched the 50th anniversary of The Cross and the Switchblade. If you are familiar with the story, you know it is about the testimony of David Wilkerson and how he stood before a judge in New York City and offered to take responsibility for members of a street gang. He risked his own life to bring Jesus to one of the most violent groups in Brooklyn, the "Mau Maus". When the gang leader threatened to cut him to pieces, Pastor Wilkerson told him every piece would tell him that Jesus loved him. It was a time of violence, racism and civil unrest. It was a time when a single pastor pointed people to a better way through the love of Christ and inspired millions by his actions. |

Yesterday we released two new Torchlighters DVDs. One of those episodes features Harriet Tubman. If you know the story, you know that Harriet was born into slavery. After escaping she made numerous trips to rescue friends, family and dozens of other slaves. In all of her journeys she trusted God to show her the way and keep her safe. It was a time of violence, civil disobedience and slavery. And one woman, often referred to as "Moses", found her way to save others while inspiring faith, courage and freedom.

My own spiritual mentor, Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, was imprisoned 14 years for his faith. Even while being tortured, he would witness to those who beat him. While suffering from Tuberculosis, in a prison hospital, he offered to share his meds with a former communist officer. When communism failed in 1989, he offered to go on national TV in his homeland of Romania and encourage his countrymen not to kill the former Communist officers. He said he would go into the prisons and share Christ with them. (Pastor Wurmbrand did return to Romania and made his plea on national Romanian TV!) It was a time of civil unrest, protests and persecution. And one Pastor demonstrated Christ's love by showing the Church and the Communists a better way.

These examples of men and women of faith give me great inspiration. I don't have a political answer to the current situations facing our nation. I do have a spiritual answer taught to me by great heroes of the faith. I hope these same testimonies, and others like them, can also inspire you. Please see below how you can watch the testimonies of David Wilkerson, Harriet Tubman and Richard Wurmbrand.
I pray Christ's love shine upon you this Sunday! Steve Cleary CEO/Founder RevelationMedia |
