It could be said that a bicycle wheel is free to spin on its axle. It could also be said that a bicycle is free when it becomes separated from the axle and rolls down a hill. I would say that a bicycle wheel is free when it spins in the way it was designed to spin-on its axle. That's true freedom for a bicycle tire. Jesus declared, ''Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin'' (John 8:34). And then he said, ''If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed'' (v. 36). True freedom-the kind of freedom Jesus was talking about-is freedom to live as God intended us to live.
