Stale Faith?
This content is drawn from: Psalm 119:1-8
“I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.” Psalm 119:7
Why does your faith feel stale? You could be exhausted or over-extended. Maybe you’re entangled in a particular sin struggle that diverts attention from your relationship with the Lord. Perhaps you’re simply neglecting the many gifts God has made available to you—preaching, sacraments, Bible reading, prayer, godly fellowship, etc.
Of course, our feelings are a bad barometer anyway. They’re always changing! When people are spiritually struggling, it’s easy to tell them to read the Bible and pray more. But if they’re reading the Bible or praying only to make themselves feel better, they’re probably still missing the mark.
Our God is a Father who delights to talk with His blood-bought children. Along with reading the Bible, why not journal or talk with God while you’re doing so? Be real with Him. Tell Him that you struggle to believe that certain passages about Him, you, or the world are true. Wrestle with Him over the meaning of the text. Usually, such meditating on God’s Word turns painlessly into real, heart-felt prayer, freshening your walk with Him.
As you enjoy the God who speaks with your hard or hurting heart, you’ll find greater delight in belonging to Him and following Him. |
