Hope
This content is drawn from: Psalm 130
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
We all cling to hope, a “favorable and confident expectation of something.” You don’t hope for what’s already secured. What you hope for may not even seem likely. But you anticipate it, confident it will arrive as surely as the new day will come. You know it like the watchman in Psalm 130 who is certain morning is on the way.
Many of us have areas of life that feel hopeless. We may plunge into despair from broken relationships, loved ones in dysfunction, failures at school or work, etc. But if we are grounded in the Lord, we have an advantage. Our hope moves past the thing itself and to the God who grounds all reality. Our hope is placed in His character, goodness, faithfulness, and Word.
In the end our hope is that God will make right what is wrong and restore what is broken. While we long to see this in our lifetimes, hope in God assures us that we will certainly see all things made new in heaven one day. “Put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption” (Psalm 130:7).
In areas you feel hopeless, shift your focus off of the problem itself and onto God. See if hope at some level returns to you. |
