Bible Gateway Love, Not Indifference This content is drawn from: Luke 10:25-38 “‘Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?’ The expert in the law replied, ‘The one who had mercy on him.’” Luke 10:36-37 Loneliness is at epidemic proportions in our world today. Increasingly, people feel isolated and alone though surrounded by others. A prevailing feeling of being disconnected exists. It is said that the opposite of love is not hate, but indifference, the very thing in which loneliness is rooted. Jesus calls us out of indifference and into love when He tells the story of the Good Samaritan. From it we have a timeless example of what love of neighbor looks like in action. The first two people who pass by the injured man were indifferent to him and his needs. But the Samaritan saw the man and was moved to act on his behalf. Can you see that to love your neighbor is not an abstract concept at all? It’s seeing the needs of others and responding to them. To address the epidemic of loneliness in our culture, don’t ignore the people in your life. Enter in ways that respond to their real needs. You yourself were helpless and beaten down by the weight of sin when your Savior saw you, cared for you, and welcomed you as His own.
