Bible Gateway God in All of Life This content is drawn from: John 15:1-17 “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” John 15:4 If ever there was a place to “find God in the little things,” it would be in the chores list of daily life. Can we see Jesus in our ordinary tasks? Martin Luther responded to what we all have thought: Why must I make the bed or empty the trash or change the baby’s diapers? He wrote in 1522, “What then does Christian faith say to this? It opens its eyes, looks upon all these insignificant, distasteful, and despised duties in the Spirit, and is aware that they are all adorned with divine approval as with the costliest gold and jewels. … God, with all his angels and creatures is smiling—not because the father is washing diapers, but because he is doing so in Christian faith.” [LW 45:39-40]. Do not neglect to find God in the routine, for the majority of life is exactly that. Then you will be able to confess as Brother Lawrence (1605-1691) did that the “time of business does not with me differ from the time of prayer; and in the noise and clatter of my kitchen… I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were upon my knees.” When you face the chores of your day, gratefully practice the presence of God while doing them. He’s sanctifying your work as well as you! | | Bible Gateway Recommendations | | | | | | | | Copyright Information | | The Anchor Devotional. Copyright © 2018 Haven Ministries.
