The Word Made Flesh “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. …The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory.” John 1:1, 14a I love letters. Through the years I have kept many letters that have touched my heart. In this age of text messages and twitter, the art of letter writing still offers something that modern technology cannot. Letters create a unique connection between the writer and the recipient, giving a tangible, lasting expression of one’s heart in pen and ink. God inscribed the ultimate love letter, spelling it out for us in His own blood. The Bible is how He tells us of that love and what He has done to demonstrate it. Through it, He speaks personally to His children and opens their eyes to His character, His promises, and His faithfulness. He calls us to treasure it in our hearts and minds that we might know Him and experience redemption and fullness of life in Jesus. And who is Jesus? He is the One “dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God” (Revelation 19:13). As you meditate on this glorious mystery made known, may God’s Word be etched on your heart. Scripture focus: John 1:1-34 Insight: What was once a mystery, kept hidden for ages, God chose to reveal fully in Christ (see Colossians 1:25-27). Does the Word live in you?
