Hiding Place “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. …Who is the Rock except our God?” 2 Samuel 22:31-32 In her book, The Hiding Place (1971), Corrie ten Boom recounts the inspiring story of her family’s quest to offer refuge for those oppressed by the Nazis. This passion eventually led to the imprisonment of Corrie and her family. But their faith in the Lord and dependence on His grace grew ever stronger. Just as he had done regularly home, Corrie’s father led a time of prayer and sharing God’s Word, now from his prison cell. Much of God’s Word was hidden in his heart though he was not allowed to have a Bible in the concentration camp. Facing fellow despairing prisoners, He recited Psalm 119:114, “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word,” and Psalm 32:7, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble.” The ten Boom family trusted God, much like David did when he was pursued by his enemies. They sought comfort and hope not in their surroundings, but in the flawless Word of the Lord. They sheltered under the Rock of God’s promises. We can hope in His Word; He is our hiding place.
