| | Greetings Friend, I don't know about you, but I am more than happy to say goodbye to the year 2020. Definitely not a favorite! As we draw near to Christmas and the New Year, I recall the words of St. Paul. In 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 he speaks of not losing heart, reminding us that "our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." Then he speaks of fixing "our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." That seems like an excellent way to close out this year and begin a new one. We can fix our eyes on God and on his promises. Two of my books, Praying the Names of God and Praying the Names of Jesus , do just that, together providing a year-long devotional study of God's names that can show you how to pray his names on a daily basis. Names like El Shadday, Adonay, Abba, and many others reveal rich truths about God that can help draw you into a more satisfying relationship with him. Find Praying the Names of God and Praying the Names of Jesus on Amazon. Today I am thanking Jesus that whatever we may face in the New Year—whether of joy or sorrow (or, more likely, a mixture of both)—the unwavering truth is that God is with us. He is Emmanuel. To paraphrase the words of George VI during the Second World War, let us now "Go out into the new year, putting our hands into the Hand of God. That shall be to us better than light, and safer than a known way."
