DHS Issues National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin Dear CRCL Stakeholders, Today, DHS Acting Secretary David Pekoske issued a National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin after consultation with the intelligence community and law enforcement partners. There is currently a heightened threat environment across the U.S. that is likely to persist over the coming weeks. DHS does not have any information to indicate a specific, credible plotting; however, violence has continued in recent days and we remain concerned that violent extremists may continue to facilitate or engage in unlawful violence. The Bulletin will soon be translated into various languages and will be available at www.dhs.gov/national-terrorism-advisory-system. NTAS Bulletins permit DHS to communicate critical terrorism information that, while not necessarily indicative of a specific threat against the U.S., can reach homeland security partners or the public quickly, thereby allowing recipients to implement necessary protective measures. Because DHS may issue Bulletins in circumstances not warranting a more specific warning, NTAS Bulletins provide DHS greater flexibility to provide timely information to stakeholders and members of the public. DHS remains committed to preventing violence and threats meant to intimidate or coerce specific populations on the basis of their religion, race, ethnicity, identity, or political views. As always, we continue to support the DHS mission to protect the homeland, our people, and our values, and the committed goal of CRCL to secure our Nation while ensuring the protection of civil rights and civil liberties. We, therefore, value your partnership as we work together to keep our country safe from the threats we face. We encourage you to share your concerns by emailing communityengagement@hq.dhs.gov. Thank you and please stay safe. Katherine Culliton-González Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) U.S. Department of Homeland Security With honor and integrity, we will safeguard the American people, our homeland, and our values. |
