This week, in every state across the country, Americans answered the call to serve, honoring Dr. King's legacy with acts of good – just as they have for more than a quarter century. Together, while observing COVID-19 safety protocols, you built desks for at home-learning and helped parents with tips for supporting their students; you packaged and delivered food to those in need; you restored and beautified public spaces; and you participated in virtual projects to support health care workers and those feeling isolation and so much more. Most importantly, you demonstrated what's possible when Americans unite to do good – the true potential of the American spirit. This is what America is about. Neighbor helping neighbor, stranger helping stranger, and brick by brick building a stronger, more united nation. But there is more to be done. The need for us to work together and support our communities has never been greater or more urgent. The pandemic continues to leave its mark on our lives, hurting our communities and neighbors. Despite these challenges, we can support one another – you proved that this week. Help keep this spirit alive – pledge to serve throughout the year. Make a commitment to an organization you care about, encourage your friends, and learn about ways to do good safely while at home. Together, there's nothing we can't do. United, We Serve. Serve Together for a Better Tomorrow At AmeriCorps, we harness the talents and compassion of volunteers across America to tackle our most pressing challenges on MLK Day and year-round.
