Two years after Jeff left his law firm to start a technology company, the market tanked. Just as we had our first child and I stopped working, Jeff had to stop taking a salary in an attempt to have enough to pay his people and save the company. Our finances were in crisis. For several months, we had to ask our church for help.   That summer, a friend offered his cabin in Colorado for some badly-needed "R&R." We flew out using frequent flyer miles and drove up into the mountains, talking though our swirling questions. How were we going to pay the bills? Should Jeff close the company, forfeit all the money we had invested, and start looking for a job? Should I put our toddler in daycare and get a full-time job? Things looked bleak. In the background, on the radio, Andrew Peterson's song "Nothing to Say" began playing.   Just then, we came around a bend in the highway, and the most incredible, breathtaking vista of soaring mountain peaks rose up in front of us. At that moment, the music swelled and the chorus of the song rang out: And the mountains sing Your glory hallelujah; The canyons echo sweet amazing grace; My spirit sails; The mighty gales are bellowing your name; And I've got nothing to say. We were struck silent. Miles upon miles of green and blue and purple, of snow-capped peaks reaching to the heavens. The grandeur of creation, shouting of a Creator. He created all of this­–all of THIS!–with merely a word of His power.   Suddenly, we both had tears streaming down our cheeks. The same God who spoke this majesty into being loved us intimately; He had us and all our problems in His hands. Suddenly our problems looked so small compared to this demonstration of His power.   Friends, when troubles come, have you ever allowed yourself to be overwhelmed by the greatness of our God? We cannot feel despair and awe at the same time. That day in the mountains, our tears were not of sadness or even an overload of emotion. The emotion rising in us had a name: it was JOY. It was exulting, overwhelming awe at the majesty of our God. When we truly recognize the awesomeness of our God, we receive joy in return. "A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling 'darkness' on the walls of his cell." –C.S.
