The New Testament Challenge: by Jeff Manion from session one, The New Testament Challenge
Welcome to Bible Study of the Week, where every Sunday we give you the free first sessions of video Bible studies from leading authors, pastors, and Bible teachers.
Jeff Manion is the senior teaching pastor of Ada Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he has served for 30 years. His great joy is digging deeply into Scripture and passionately teaching the story of the Bible in a clear and relevant way.
In The New Testament Challenge, a new eight-week experience perfect for small groups or personal study, he offers up a simple but revolutionary idea: What if you have a New Testament with the books arranged in a disruptive yet insightful sequence, and you are challenged to read it all the way through?
Let's take a look at the session one material for Luke-Acts...

LUKE
The two volumes of Luke-Acts have been combined in The Books of the Bible (the companion for this study) and placed first because they provide an overview of the entire New Testament period. Luke wrote this two-volume history to serve several important purposes:
What to watch for in Luke: Look for some unlikely cast members in Luke's drama. Luke highlights Jesus's compassion toward the outsiders and outcasts of his day: the poor, the disabled, tax collectors, women, children, and others. According to Luke, Jesus is for everybody.

Your personal Bible experience starts with a daily practice of reading the Bible. Before you watch this session, read the book of Luke. The New Testament Challenge Study Journal provides the 40-day reading plan and journaling pages to record your questions, responses, and insights as you read through a special edition of the New Testament called The Books of the Bible, New Testament. By reading this Bible, which arranges the books with each of the four gospels at the beginning of a group of related books, you gain insights and make connections between books in a way that is both revealing and fascinating.
