Member Update: #NotMyACOG Site Launch, AAPLOG in DC, Title X Comment Period, and More!

Dear Webmaster220, In this member update we discuss the ongoing threat to conscience protections for physicians, the state-level victories to protect life, and how you can get involved with our friends at CMF Curo. But first.... Thank you to all who participated in and joined our Northeast Regional Hippocratic Gathering!  AAPLOG hosted its 2021 Northeast Regional Hippocratic Gathering, highlighted by presentations from Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) CEO Michael Farris and Former U.S. Special Representative for Global Women's Health at the Department of Health and Human Services Valerie Huber. In attendance were medical professionals, policy leaders and public officials from the Washington, D.C. area all committed to standing for life and the future of responsible women's healthcare. Thank you for a truly special event, and we hope to see our members at AAPLOG's future Hippocratic Gatherings in San Diego, California and Houston, Texas!  Get to Know Your AAPLOG Board Members: Dr. Jeff Wright, Chair of the Fetal Medicine Subsection  Where are you from, when did you begin practicing medicine, and what area of medicine do you practice?  I grew up near the space center in Texas and moved to coastal NC in 1990 to practice maternal fetal medicine and raise a family.    What is the best part of being an AAPLOG member?  AAPLOG bulletins and emails keep me informed and help guide me in my Prolife medical practice.   What subsection/Committee/project are you leading at AAPLOG?  I chair the maternal fetal medicine subsection.   What are your goals for this, and how can others join in on the conversation?  My goal is to promote a Prolife viewpoint in my specialty.   My hope is that my MFM colleagues will come to appreciate that the fetus is completely a living human being and will manage their patients with high risk pregnancies to optimize the lives of both patients, fetus and mother.   What do you think is the biggest challenge facing your subsection, or pro-life medical professionals in general? How does AAPLOG help you and its other members overcome those challenges?  The biggest challenge in MFM is the general lack of recognition that the fetus is fully a human being.  That makes a decision to terminate a pregnancy an all too easy choice when complications arise.   If you are an MFM physician and are not a part of our subsection, please email jeff@aaplog.org to join.  #NotMyACOG Site Launches to Combat ACOG's Pro-Abortion Narrative Over the years, ACOG has become a pro-abortion advocacy organization not representative of its OB-GYN members across the United States. The #NotMyACOG site outlines the shift of the organization from a professional, membership-driven group to a politically-driven puppet for the pro-abortion agenda. To learn more about ACOG's shift, and growing presence as a political power, visit the site today - and share with your colleagues to show others how this group is #NotMyACOG.  A link to the site can be found here.  HHS Title X Comment Period OPEN NOW!  Title X of the Public Health Service Act is the federally funded program that funds family planning services. The new HHS leadership has proposed rollbacks of prior policies regarding Title X funding that steered taxpayer dollars away from funding abortion procedures. The new rules would not only allow your tax dollars to help fund abortions, it would also require those clinics receiving Title X funding to refer for abortion procedures, regardless of any religious or moral objection.  If these new rules are imposed, it will essentially disqualify any pro-life physicians or clinics from receiving Title X funds. The public comment period is now open and every comment must be read and responded to by HHS.  They need to hear from YOU why you do not support these proposed changes.  To submit a comment, please click here. Since January there have been 536 abortion restrictions, including 146 abortion bans, introduced across 46 states. Of those proposals, more than 60 of those restrictions have been enacted across 13 states, including eight outright bans. To put those figures in context, in 2011, regarded previously as the most hostile to abortion rights since the decision on Roe v.
