WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas will travel to New London, Connecticut to attend the 140th Commencement Exercises at the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), where he will deliver remarks to the graduating Class of 2021 and introduce President Joseph R. Biden. Admiral Karl Schultz, Commandant of the Coast Guard, will also deliver remarks in the ceremony. The USCGA Class of 2021 includes approximately 240 cadets who will earn their commission as officers in the United States Coast Guard or their respective home Nation's naval services. Upon graduation, the newly commissioned Coast Guard Ensigns will serve across the fleet, with a majority going to afloat units. A federal service academy and the only one within the Department of Homeland Security, USCGA is the sole accession point for training, educating, and commissioning 100-percent of the United States Coast Guard officer corps.
