Dear National Service & Volunteer Partners, Ahead of this year's Memorial Day observance, I want to share a unique volunteer opportunity as part of AmeriCorps newest partnership with the Travis Manion Foundation, one of the nation's leading veteran service organizations. The Foundation's Operation Legacy is hosting its #TheHonorProject initiative, offering surrogate services for families of fallen military who are not able to visit their loved one's gravesites due to COVID-19. TMF is deploying volunteers to visit Arlington National Cemetery to pay respects and place commemorative Flags of Valor at each hero's gravesite. AmeriCorps is recruiting volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to join #TheHonorProject in six local communities to help plant flags at select National Cemeteries: Arlington; Los Angeles; Austin, Texas; Denver; Atlanta; and Concord, New Hampshire from May 27-May 31. If you aren't near one of the designated cemeteries, you can show your support on social media: - Share a photo of your fallen hero and their story using the hashtag #TheHonorProject
- If you are looking for someone to honor, visit the TMF website for stories of fallen heroes whose families have served with Travis Manion Foundation.
In a time of growing division in America, we are partnering with the foundation to help unite communities in service to those who gave their lives for our country. Bringing together our country through service is a long cherished ideal; and this year we are grateful to partner with the Travis Manion Foundation to give our fellow Americans an opportunity to do just that—bring our country together—while celebrating the lives of our fallen heroes and honoring their ultimate sacrifice.
