Days of celebration!

SHALOM!

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." (Matthew 24:35)

The Jewish people are called “The People of the Book,” and education has a big place in Jewish and Israeli culture. But to what "book" are we referring? Not just any book, but rather, the Word of God! Recently, our Bible College faculty and staff were filled with joy as we celebrated the accomplishments of those who gave their time and dedication to study God's Word with us. This year's graduation ceremony was extra special!

ONE FOR ISRAEL

We celebrated our own graduates, as well as more than 15 BA graduates of our joint Bible and Education program with the largest college in Israel. Additionally, we celebrated 8 of our MA graduates who received their doctoral degrees in various institutions! The Messianic community in Israel is restoring its scholastic place within our nation.

Each year we train Israeli believers in biblical basics in our "Bikurim" (first fruits) foundation course. We celebrated with those who gained their certificate, knowing that those who want to pursue their training further have every opportunity to do so. Several other students graduated with a BA in Biblical Studies, two of whom will go on to pursue graduate work; one at Talbot Seminary (Philosophy and Apologetics), and the other will study for his Masters in Jewish Studies here in Israel.

In another first, we celebrated with several graduates who had gained their BA in Special Education from our joint program with the largest college in Israel. Having worked towards credits in both institutions, they now have a great basis to serve with children and youth in ministry, or to gain secular jobs in that field. We were delighted to hear that a teacher in the Israeli college said that our students were her favorite!

Lastly, we recognized our MA graduates who finished their doctorates from various institutions: Dr. Eitan Bar, Dr. Golan Broshi, Dr. Dan Sered, Dr. Vladimir Tsapar, Dr. Moshe Lowenthal, Dr. John Relf, Dr. Thomas Damianos and Dr. Sheila Gyllenberg who completed her PhD in Archaeology from Bar Ilan.

ABOUT OUR BIBLE COLLEGE

Israel College of the Bible

Our Bible college and seminary, Israel College of the Bible, broke new ground for the growth of the Gospel in Israel. Previously, pastors and ministry leaders had to learn English and travel abroad for years to get proper Bible training. But today they can stay in Israel, plugged into their calling, and study in their native tongue. This has been revolutionary for church growth in Israel. Our goal is to equip Israeli believers with the tools they need for God’s service, right where they are. We offer courses online and in person ranging from certificate programs to BA degrees and Masters courses for pastors and ministry workers. When we opened a Masters program specifically for senior leadership and pastors in Israel, an equal number of Messianic Jewish and Evangelical Arab pastors enrolled. During their studies, they became great friends and brothers. They are working side by side, shoulder to shoulder, to advance God’s kingdom in Israel. Following the success with senior pastors, we began a similar program for women leaders from both communities with great success. We have become living proof of the unity between Jews and Arabs made possible through Jesus.

Despite his status as one of the most influential and intelligent Christian authors of the 20th century, C.S. Lewis never thought of himself as a professional theologian. While he was well-read in many types of literary genres, he did not go to Seminary to obtain a Masters in Theology and study a year of Old Testament Hebrew and New Testament Greek. He was not a Pastor who preached sermons to a congregation for many years but a raw, honest philosopher and professor of literature who wrote as well as any Christian of his time could. He had a gift for clearly articulating his perspectives on a variety of issues. Above all, he was humble, in that he had an honest evaluation of both his strengths and his weaknesses. I believe this is one of the main reasons why he is still so enjoyable to read even after all these years. In terms of his theology, Lewis himself said he was an “Anglican but not especially ‘high,’ nor especially ‘low,’ nor especially anything else.” So the theology of C.S. Lewis is not something one can immediately discover by simply perusing a certain book of his to see exactly where he stands on certain doctrinal issues; it is much more subtle and convoluted than that. But in this book, you will find his different thoughts from his many books about certain Christian doctrines and topics pieced together in an easy-to-follow format (Lewis has written nearly 60 books but none of them are on systematic theology). This book offers very clear depictions of his theology concerning subjects such as the doctrine of inspiration, original sin, human depravity, human origins, evolution, intelligent design, theodicy, love and marriage, redemption, grace, new creation, and grief, as his authentic reaction to God after his wife’s death is conveyed. The final chapters also contain all of his greatest quotes arranged and sorted by topic as well as excerpts, quotes, and summaries from most of his books in a quick, easy-to-read, bullet-point format. These last two sections are a particularly great resource to draw from as you can quickly learn about the main points Lewis conveys in his bestselling books.
