Member Update: Dobbs Oral Argument Date Announced, Mifeprex at the FDA

Dear Webmaster220, In this member update we discuss: Oral arguments in the Dobbs case set for December 1  The impending removal of FDA safety restrictions for Mifeprex ACOG's war on progesterone for women who change their mind after taking Mifeprex  Dobbs Case scheduled for oral arguments before the Supreme Court Every OB-GYN should want their patients treated according to empirically-sound medical research. But abortion jurisprudence has limited the national discussion surrounding abortion to the scientific information available in 1973. This may change very soon. The Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments to begin December 1, 2021 in a case where the State of Mississippi is being sued by an abortion provider in Jackson, Mississippi for a new law banning abortions after 15 weeks gestation (Dobbs case).  AAPLOG  represents thousands of OB-GYNs across the U.S. who believe all women deserve access to the highest level of medical care.  In our brief in the Dobbs case, we explain the increased risks of late term abortions to women. FDA Looks to Roll Back REMS for Mifeprex The FDA is at this moment poised to remove any remaining safety constraints on the provision of drug-induced abortion, and the completion of the FDA "review" and dismissal  of the necessity for restrictions is due to be announced in October or early November.  Pro abortion legislators are providing cover for the FDA who is considering this removal of safety requirements based on politics instead of evidence of safety. Removing the REMS is the last real obstacle to complete pharmacy and possibly over the counter dispensing of mifepristone (Mifeprex) allowing women to access this drug with no medical supervision whatsoever. It is medically unsound that ACOG would participate in this call for uncontrolled access to abortion knowing that unsupervised use of Mifeprex will mean that women will have no meaningful informed consent before taking Mifeprex,  no access to Rhogam if they are Rh negative,  and no accurate diagnosis of the gestational age of their pregnancy even though almost 1 out of 3 pregnancies after 13 weeks gestation need emergency surgery for hemorrhage and retained tissue. ACOG's war on progesterone for women who change their mind after taking Mifeprex  In fear that women might change their mind about abortion and choose an option to try to save their preborn child,  ACOG has launched a major disinformation campaign, including pressuring Google to cancel advertisements about using progesterone to counter mifepristone poisoning.      Google Blocks Ad for Safe and Effective Abortion-Pill Reversal | National Review www.nationalreview.com In a letter from Congress to Google, the link to ACOG was identified as the reason that Google shut down the ads: "Google initially approved Live Action's APR ads and they ran for over four months, spending over $170,000 and directing thousands of people to the APR hotline.  On September 13, Google unexpectedly shut down these ads without warning or evidence, citing its "unreliable claims" policy.  Google has subsequently indicated that it took this action after reviewing a one-sided pro-abortion "report" provided by a left-leaning news agency.  Google has also since stated that it censored APR ads because they made "unproven medical claims", citing "serious concerns" from the pro-abortion American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).   It is shameful that Google has acted to appease pro-abortion activists by silencing pro-life voices, rather than considering all the evidence and following the science."     It is also shameful that ACOG's pro abortion ideology  similarly blinds them  to basic toxicology....mifeprex poisons progesterone receptors, but it is a reversible blockade and mifeprex can be displaced by natural progesterone.  This has been demonstrated both in animal models and in a large case series derived from the Abortion Pill Rescue Network.  There are to date over 2000 babies born after progesterone treatments.  Progesterone as we all know has been proven harmless in pregnancy by 5 decades of use in the infertility industry. As ASRM clearly states:   "What are the risks of taking progesterone? Many studies have been performed to look at the use of natural progesterone during infertility treatment cycles. These studies have shown that progesterone will pose no significant risk to you or your baby." The single study that ACOG cites concerning the "danger" of progesterone after mifepristone had a total of TEN patients, 5 in the mifepristone alone (placebo) arm and 5 in the mifepristone plus progesterone arm.   In the mifepristone alone arm, two women hemorrhaged, both had a D&C and one had to be transfused.   In the mifepristone plus progesterone arm 4 women had living fetuses at the two week follow up, and the one women who did hemorrhage had stopped by the time she got to the ER and no further treatment in the ER was required. Further, a 2021 study looking at mifepristone adverse events revealed that there were more hemorrhages in the group of women who took mifepristone AND MISOPROSTOL than there were in the group of women who took misoprostol alone.   So, ACOG has zero scientific support for the claim that mifepristone plus progesterone is more dangerous than mifepristone plus misoprostol.  In fact, the evidence is to the contrary. We will be happy to work with you on becoming an Abortion Pill Reversal provider.  Please contact us if you are interested.
