In our efforts to bring clarity to our children about the beauty of being disciples of Jesus Christ, we not only teach them about the wonderful life and benefits of serving God, but in a wise and loving way we also speak to them about the consequences of a life lived in darkness, devoid of biblical principles. By doing so a contrast is introduced in which to showcase the brilliance, the magnificence, and glory of the abundant life in Christ Jesus. Share the good news! Find Out More Community Ministry Welcome Home! Terry R Baughman, Lead Pastor "How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? … So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:14–15, 17 NKJ). A unique and essential quality of the message of the Gospel is faith. In fact, the writer of Hebrews said, "Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is" (Hebrews 11:6 NKJ). Before we receive anything from God we must come to faith, and faith comes through hearing the Word of God preached. The most obvious way to hear a preacher is by coming to church or attending a Bible study to hear the Word of God proclaimed.  In the times of digital technology it is possible to hear the Word of God preached online, on television, or downloaded to some digital device. We use some of those methods to broadcast God's Word effectively, but there are some other things that happen in the faith community that cannot happen in a virtual context. When we meet together in a community context the Word of God is amplified and strengthened. There is something about the ministry in community that brings encouragement and builds faith among those who are present to hear.  There are other blessings that come as a result of meeting together in community for worship. Every service has a time for special prayer needs as we unite with other believers on behalf of requests for prayer that have been submitted to the body of believers. In special prayer sessions there are opportunities to share our needs aloud and hear the unified petition to God on behalf of our need.  Encouragement comes to the participant who comes together for worship. Another believer may just speak a word that we need to hear. The preaching brings faith to the unbeliever, but there is also the encouragement of faith that comes to those who may be facing a challenge or dealing with discouragement. When the Jerusalem council sent a letter to the believers in Antioch it is said that, "They rejoiced over its encouragement. Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words" (Acts 15:31-32 NKJ). They were strengthen by words of prophecy and encouraged when they heard the message from the leadership. Though we may not have old-fashioned testimony services where people stand and share their daily trials and victories, our faith is built up as others share their positive  experiences in God and some miraculous answers to prayer. These are often shared personally, in a small group setting, or as a written testimony. In community people are emboldened to share with one another what God has done in their lives.  Finally, it should be recognized that people are social beings. We need the connection with other people. We thrive when we gather together in community for worship, for prayer, for special projects and for social events.  We are instructed to gather for worship. From the beginning of the church believers met publicly and from house to house. There were prayer times at the temple, gatherings in homes to share meals, and weekly gatherings in the meeting houses (or synagogues) for shared social connection and spiritual growth through reading God's Word and instruction from teachers of the Law. When the Holy Spirit came it was frequently experienced in community settings where many were filled with the Spirit. Let's come together in faith and see what God will do through us!
