Mary, the mother of Jesus, meets her old friend Dinah to help her prepare for her son's wedding. Jesus, along with his growing company of disciples, make their way to Cana to take part in the wedding celebration. As the festivities ensue, Mary comes to find that the wine has run out. She turns to Jesus and asks Him to intervene. Thomas, a servant at the wedding, is puzzled by Jesus's instructions to fill purification vessels with water and watches on in amazement as a server draws a pitcher full and pours the head of the banquet a glass of wine. This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. —John 2:11 [ESV] |
