It was the 1970s, but I was very aware that the people in the newsroom, who knew I was an evangelical Christian, treated me like an outsider.
The accepted belief system in the newsroom was secular humanism. I figured out quickly that I had no upward mobility, which is one reason I left the secular journalism profession. I don't remember the people being unkind necessarily, but I was excluded from certain assignments and marginalized. Some of the editors were passionate for their worldview almost as if it were a religion.
I'm not sure there is any professional arena in America where Christians are free to speak about (let alone promote) the biblical perspective on all types of morality. How can you serve as a public-school teacher in California while not compromising your Christian beliefs regarding marriage and families? The same could be asked about the counseling profession, the legal profession, or higher education.
