This is the time of year to commemorate the birth of Jesus. And during this joyous season, lots of couples are also celebrating their engagement. Historically, December 25 has been the day when the highest number of marriage proposals are made in the U.S. People offer young, engaged couples lots of marriage advice. On one hand, people are excited and congratulate them: “I’m thrilled for you!” But they often add a dose of reality by saying things such as: “You know that 50% of marriages end in divorce, right?” We need to celebrate when a couple chooses to marry. Let them know you’re committed to supporting, encouraging, and praying for their marriage. Also encourage them to prepare for a lifetime together … instead of just preparing for the wedding day.
