In the days of the Old Testament, promises meant something. When someone made a verbal pledge, it carried value. People seemed to believe their covenants were trustworthy. Today even legally binding agreements aren't always honored. But that is not the way of the kingdom. God wants us to be people of integrity whose promises are sure. To consult with heaven before opening our mouths. To be those whose vows aren't flippantly tossed about.
Every part of our lives should honor God. Even the promises we make, no matter how insignificant they may seem. If we commit to something, let's carry it through. And let's not commit to something unless we've checked with the Lord first. Let's become people whose integrity is reflected in every area of life.
Father, I want my life to reflect you in every way. I want my words to be seasoned with your anointing, so I will seek to honor you with everything I say. Thank you for reminding me that you don't take promises lightly, even the small ones, and I shouldn't either.
