Not only did Jesus come to restore life to his friend, Lazarus, but he also came to bring life to the whole world. This directs us back to what Jesus said in John 3:16, that "everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life." Who gets to experience eternal life? Those who believe in Christ as the Son of God. And those who truly believe in him will live out his values on the earth.
We are so quick to push past the power of belief that Jesus spoke of. We look for the evidence and transformation, almost demanding it at once. Faith is a journey, though. It develops and refines over time. It is something to be practiced, to be formed as we walk it out. But first, faith is a gift. Anyone, no matter their abilities, their education, or class, can believe. It is a beautiful and powerful act of joining our will to the gift of God's grace. What a generous Savior we have!
Anointed One, thank you for offering the same opportunity to everyone who comes to you. You are so generous in mercy. I believe in you!
