Is God calling you to speak up? The statement "the truth will set you free" is powerful and appealing—so much so that numerous schools and universities use it as their motto. But that phrase is only a partial quote. When Jesus originally spoke it, as recorded in the Gospel of John, it went like this: "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." It seems our culture loves the part about truth producing freedom. The part about holding to the teaching of Jesus as a prerequisite for knowing the truth, however, isn't so popular. On Telling the Truth this week, Stuart Briscoe looks into the Book of Jeremiah to help illustrate how culture always has had a penchant for trying to live apart from God. People strive to find ways to make things work without the Lord, but, as the condition of the world and often our personal lives shows, such efforts are doomed to fail. It is into such an environment that God calls His followers to be truth tellers, Stuart says. Like the prophet Jeremiah, we're commissioned to carry God's message to a world that desperately needs to hear it. Listen on our app or click the links below.
