Greetings from Zondervan Academic! We're in the middle of summer. For many, this is conference season! Three members of our team attended the inaugural Scottish Dogmatics Conference at King's College, University of Aberdeen, which was co-sponsored by Zondervan Academic and featured plenary speakers John Behr, Bruce McCormack, Amy Peeler, Fred Sanders, and Judith Wolfe. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones. Look for the conference proceedings to be published sometime next year. In the meantime, sign up to receive updates for the next Scottish Dogmatics Conference in 2026. |
Looking ahead to this month, we're pleased to release the first volume in the Studies in Method series, Modern Genre Theory: An Introduction for Biblical Studies by Andrew Judd. Different conceptions of narrative, poetry, gospel, epistle, wisdom, and apocalyptic texts lead to vastly different readings, and our disagreements about what the Bible means often boil down to different assumptions about what the biblical text is. Drawing on advancements in genre theory, this book does three things: |
- Proposes a working definition of genre for biblical studies;
- Identifies 12 tenets of modern genre theory that follow from seeing genres in their historical and social contexts; and
- Offers 8 case studies in biblical exegesis to show how a better understanding of genre leads to a better understanding of the Bible.

In this video, Judd explains a bit more about the book: |
Looking beyond July, the new academic year is quickly approaching. If you're teaching a new course or considering a new book for an existing course, we are happy to send you free exam copies.
