Tisby's book is just the start for Zondervan Reflective's early fall releases. Noted church historian Alec Ryrie says Gavin Ortlund's new book What It Means to Be Protestant "is a balm" and a "generous and wise presentation of the case for historic Protestantism" in "an age where theology is too often either angry and scornful, or mushy and hesitant." Don't miss this engaging excerpt from Ortlund's book: "How I Accidentally Became a 'Protestant Apologist'."
Pilgrim Prayers presents a compendium of poems and prayers with spiritually focused commentary from acclaimed author Tim Challies. Spanning the spectrum of human emotion, the devotional gems in this volume also help readers reflect on God's ways and respond with worship, awe, and thanksgiving. Refreshing and revealing, Pilgrim Prayers will be a valuable resource for both personal devotion, groups, and spiritual formation courses. Exam copies available upon request.
History continues to be a divisive subject in our society. But what is the Christian's responsibility? It is unusual to think about history in ethical terms, but the New Testament makes it plain that history matters. Sarah Irving-Stonebraker's thoughtful but accessible book Priests of History explores how Christians can faithfully steward the past as part of God's call to obedient discipleship. Also in history: Grace Hamman's bestselling Jesus through Medieval Eyes is now available in paperback! Get to know Grace and Sarah a bit better in our recent interviews with them.
Speaking of history: the NIV Application Commentary on the Bible: One-Volume Edition arrives August 27th. Nearly 30 years in the making and spanning 1,472 pages, this comprehensive commentary distills the most useful and insightful content from each volume in the award-winning NIV Application Commentary series. Get all the details and more about this historic volume on the Zondervan Academic blog!
Zondervan Academic also has a chock-full schedule this fall. First up, two key Hebrew resources: An Interpretive Lexicon of Old Testament Hebrew and Aramaic by Jonathan Gibson and Bryce Simon and Robert Duke's Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic Dictionary—an essential reference for those working with either biblical or extrabiblical texts. Those looking at biblically related texts will also welcome two new volumes in the Ancient Literature for New Testament Studies (ALNTS) series. Targums and Rabbinic Literature arrives in September and Inscriptions, Papyri, and Other Artifacts lands in November. Download a free chapter and see what the ALNTS series is all about!
ZA's "big" book this fall is the long-awaited volume from Kevin Vanhoozer—Mere Christian Hermeneutics. Vanhoozer aims to provide principles for reading the Bible as Scripture everywhere, at all times, and by all Christians. That's quite a task, but as Ephraim Radner notes: Vanhoozer has written "a monumental and generous volume" that is "creatively conceived, richly articulated, and faithfully penetrating" for "Protestants, Catholics, and evangelicals alike." Don't miss it! Instructors, get your exam copy.
Finally, we're continuing to deliver our popular Textbooks+ Instructor Resources. Resources for Jesus, Contradicted are done and will be released in early September. Those include our standard student study helps, an Instructor's Manual, and presentation slides. But we're also adding some new items your students WILL LOVE. Our crossword puzzles make a great study warm-up tool, focusing students' minds on key terms and concepts while helping them gear up to go deeper. We're also adding Jeopardy!-style game boards that students can use to master facts and ideas in small study groups. These boards will be available for delivery as PowerPoint slides and include study material for both midterm and final exams. Instructors, download a sample of both tools now and request your exam copy of Jesus, Contradicted if you have not already done so.
Best wishes,
