An Almost Forgotten Fanny Crosby Hymn
Representative Text
1. Wait on the Lord, wait patiently,
And thou shalt in Him be blest;
After the storm, a holy calm,
And after thy labor rest.
Refrain
Wait on the Lord, for whom hast thou
On earth or in Heaven but He?
Over thy soul a watch He keeps,
Wherever thy path may be.
2. Wait on the Lord, wait cheerfully,
And He will thy youth renew;
Wait on the Lord obediently,
Whatever He bids thee do. [Refrain]
3. Wait on the Lord, wait lovingly,
Confide in His care thy all;
Those that abide in perfect peace
No danger can e’er befall. [Refrain]
4. Wait on the Lord, wait joyfully,
For then shall thy heart be strong;
Lo! by His hand He leadeth thee,
And thou shalt be filled with song. [Refrain]

Dispel Discouragement By Billy Graham • September 30 “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart.” —Psalm 27:14, NKJV The root of discouragement is unbelief. Perhaps you are discouraged because you think you aren’t making enough money (and you aren’t convinced God can supply your needs). Or you are frustrated in your job (and you refuse to believe God can help you be content). Or maybe you are worried about health problems (and you don’t even stop to consider that your life is in God’s hands). Discouragement is a large cloud that, like all clouds, obscures the warmth and joy of the sun. In the case of spiritual discouragement, the Son of God, the Lord Jesus, is eclipsed in our lives. Discouragement is Satan’s device to thwart the work of God in our lives. Discouragement blinds our eyes to the mercy of God and makes us perceive only the unfavorable circumstances. There is only one way to dispel discouragement, and it is not in our own strength or ingenuity. It is to turn in faith to God, believing that He loves us and is in control of the future. The Bible says, “Wait on the Lord . . . and He shall strengthen your heart.” Hope for Today Focus on circumstances, and God seems distant. Focus on Christ, and problems seem to fade away.
Billy Graham Minute “The Scriptures look into the future with promise, hope, and joy—there is courage, fortitude, and power in the midst of crisis.”
