These newly approved projects were determined eligible within the last week and represent continued progress in supporting the state's recovery efforts following recent disasters, including Hurricane Helene. Police under JB Pritzker's sanctuary jurisdiction refused to answer multiple calls for assistance. So far, federal law enforcement arrested 16 rioters—including for assaulting law enforcement. Some of the worst of the worst—including criminals convicted of drug trafficking, domestic abuse, drinking and driving, and assault—were being processed at the facility when riots broke out. Carlos Eduardo Chavez-Cardenas, a criminal illegal alien from Bolivia, who was previously convicted for DUI and possession of drugs.  Erwin Jose Roa-Mustafa, a criminal illegal alien from Dominican Republic, who pled guilty on federal charges of conspiracy and intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was also convicted for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl in Luzerne County. Ibis Alberto Testa Nunez, a criminal illegal alien frol Mexico, who was previously arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for cocaine possession and possession with intent to distribute. When our heroic law enforcement officers conduct operations, they clearly identify themselves as law enforcement while wearing masks to protect themselves from being targeted by highly sophisticated gangs like Tren de Aragua and MS-13, criminal rings, murderers, and rapists. Unfortunately, Governor Pritzker’s Illinois is a sanctuary state that does not cooperate with ICE.      Coronado-Meza is accused of shooting Arias in the head, execution-style. After the murder, Coronado-Meza and his associates attempted to cover up the crime by transporting Arias’ body to a construction site, where they planned to bury his remains in concrete. After the killing, Coronado-Meza allegedly bragged about his involvement in the murder.      Coronado-Meza has also been charged with murder, concealing a homicidal death, aggravated unlawful restraint, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of a weapon.     “This sick, depraved criminal alien—Jose Javier Coronado-Meza—should have never been in our country in the first place, but the Biden administration chose to allow him to roam free on American streets. Despite having a final order of removal from an immigration judge, the Biden administration released this criminal into our country,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “We will not allow sanctuary politicians to put the lives of Americans at risk.”     Coronado-Meza first illegally entered the United States near Laredo, Texas, on September 4, 2023 — during the surge at the border under the Biden administration. He was processed for expedited removal and removed from the U.S.      A month later, he illegally re-entered the country illegally, a felony.      On Oct. 18, 2023, he was transferred to ICE custody and spent 166 days at the Stewart Detention Center. An immigration judge issued him a final order of removal on December 4, 2023. The infant is in critical condition because of the assault.   This illegal alien was previously arrested by police for reckless driving in 2024. Local police released him before ICE could even lodge a detainer.   “What kind of sick monster strangles a defenseless, innocent baby girl with a charging cord? This barbarism has no place in the U.S.,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “ICE lodged an immigration detainer to ensure this heinous criminal is not released on U.S. streets. We pray for this precious baby.”  Alvaro Mejia-Ayala entered the U.S. as a family unit in 2016 and was released into the country by the Obama administration. The Trump administration is on pace to shatter historic records and deport nearly 600,000 illegal aliens by the end of President Donald Trump’s first year since returning to office. A recent study from the United Nations reported that President Trump’s immigration policies led to a 97% reduction in illegal aliens heading northbound to the U.S. from Central America. The shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, including at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot. Three detainees were shot. Two are deceased, and the other is in critical condition. The gunman was found with a self-inflicted gun wound.      The shell casings were found with anti-ICE messages on them. This was an attack on ICE law enforcement.         “Our prayers are with the families of those killed and our ICE law enforcement. This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE,” said Secretary Noem. “For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed. This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences. Comparing ICE Day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences. The men and women of ICE are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters. They get up every morning to try and make our communities safer. Like everyone else, we just want to go home to our families at night. We are praying for the victims and their families.”    This is not the first attack on this facility. Last month, there was a bomb threat on the facility. An unknown male subject, later identified as Bratton Dean Wilkinson, a 36-year-old U.S. citizen, arrived at the reporting entrance of the Dallas Field Office and claimed to have a bomb in his backpack at approximately 6:37 pm local time.      The subject showed the security officer what he claimed to be a “detonator” on his wrist. A shelter-in-place was issued for the facility. Law Enforcement Captures Antifa-Aligned Violent Extremists Who Ambushed and Shot Officers at ICE Facility in Prairieland, Texas are Captured On July 4, 2025, a group of leftwing extremists coordinated an ambush on the Prairieland Detention Center. Wearing matching tactical clothing, the attackers first stormed the facility and used fireworks. Then, as law enforcement responded, other attackers hiding nearby opened fire, wounding a local police officer in the neck. Fifteen individuals associated with the attack have been arrested and hit with charges ranging from attempted murder of federal agents to hindering the prosecution of terrorism. One of the defendants and an alleged shooter, Benjamin Hanil Song, was hunted down and arrested after a week-long manhunt. Violent Extremist Arrested after Trying to Run Over CBP Agent with Their Car In Knox County, Tennessee, Olivia G. Wilkins, 24, attempted to run over a Border Patrol Agent who was in the process of arresting criminal illegal aliens. Wilkins attempted to flee the scene, but was pursued, arrested, and charged with aggravated reckless conduct, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, driving to endanger, hindering apprehension, obstructing government administration, and failure to stop for an officer. DHS Files Charges Against Member of Congress who Physically Assaulted ICE Officers Several members of Congress broke into the Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey and assaulted ICE officers. Representative LaMonica McIver was caught on camera physically assaulting officers who were lawfully preventing her efforts to trespass on federal property. She was indicted by a federal grand jury and charged for assaulting a federal law enforcement officer. DHS and Other Law Enforcement Arrest Antifa-Aligned Rioters Who Attacked Broadview, IL ICE Facility Since September 19, violent rioters have repeatedly attacked an ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois. DHS and law enforcement have arrested 17 of these violent rioters on multiple charges, including: 4 rioters were arrested by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Chicago for obstruction and assault on a federal officer. 7 other rioters were arrested for assaulting a law enforcement officers and have been issued citations to appear before a U.S. Magistrate and answer for their crimes. 3 other rioters have been arrested for disturbances and disorderly conduct on federal property. Their release from DHS custody is pending as of this writing. Illinois Governor Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's nonstop demonization of ICE, comparing them Nazis and falsely claiming they are "secret police" who are "terrorizing our communities" have contributed to these out-of-control riots.  DHS Arrests and Files Charges Against Antifa-Affiliated Rioters who Attacked Portland, OR ICE Facility Rioters in Portland, Oregon have repeatedly attacked and laid siege to an ICE processing center. Several have been arrested and hit with federal charges: On June 24, a rioter shined a high-powered laser beam into the eyes of an ICE Special Response Team (SRT) officer who was protecting the facility. The laser was found on the rioter's person, and the subject has been charged with Assault on a Federal Officer. Again, on June 24, a rioter picked up and threw a smoke grenade at federal officers, striking one in the forearm and abdomen. The rioter was arrested, and has been charged with Assault on a Federal Officer. On June 29, a rioter was attempting to damage equipment at the facility. DHS officers took the subject into custody, who resisted arrest, grabbed an officer in the genitals, and kicked officers in the groin and legs. They have been charged with Assault on a Federal Officer and Depredation of Government Property. Rose City Antifa also illegally doxed ICE officers, publishing their private information and home address online and on public flyers. Individuals associated with Antifa also sent death threats to ICE agents and DHS personnel. DHS Arrests and Prosecutes Antifa-Aligned Rioters in Los Angeles Throughout the summer of 2025, riots broke in Los Angeles as DHS law enforcement officers conducted operations to find and arrest criminal illegal aliens. Multiple rioters have been arrested and prosecuted for attacking law enforcement and destroying property. During a Border Patrol operation in Los Angeles, Elpidio Reyna donned a mask and threw cinderblocks at federal officers and their vehicles, injuring an agent. He was indicted by a federal grand jury for assaulting a federal officer, and is facing up to 20 years in prison. On June 17, a rioter attempted to strike Federal Protection Service (FPS) officers with their car and disrupt an ongoing arrest. They were found and arrested on September 9th and have been charged with Assaulting a Federal Officer. On August 2nd, rioters descended on a federal courthouse. While a FPS vehicle attempted to exit the facility, one of the rioters threw themselves on the vehicle. When officers attempted to detain the rioter, he struck an officer in the face with his fist. He has been arrested and charged for assaulting a federal officer. Again, on August 2nd, a rioter struck a FPS officer on the arm and torso during a wider demonstration. The rioter has been since arrested and charged with assaulting a federal officer. Breaching buildings is dangerous business. Securing all individuals in a house while executing a warrant is standard because it protects those who are not the intended target of the warrant. People often act erratically during police operations and jeopardize the safety of all involved. Securing non-targets decreases the likelihood of that danger.  The Tribune’s editors should know full well that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are facing a 1000% increase in attacks, just as we saw over the weekend at Broadview processing facility. Violent rioters slashed tires and threw bottles, rocks and fireworks at law enforcement officers.  Brazen lies like the ones in Wednesday’s editorial contribute directly to this increase. DHS law enforcement put their lives on the line every single day to keep Americans safe. The Tribune should be thanking the men and women who are cleaning up our communities and restoring the rule of law. Rapists, murderers, pedophiles, and other dangerous criminal illegal aliens are now off Illinois’ streets because of these officers. No American should be forced to share their community with criminals who shouldn’t even be here in the first place. President Trump and Secretary Noem are standing up for the rule of law everywhere. They are protecting law-abiding Americans and law enforcement officers while doing so. An honest account of the facts would show that.” The media’s blatantly false smears against ICE are leading to a 1000% increase in assaults against officers. Our ICE law enforcement officers are facing a more than 1,000% increase in assaults against them. Disturbingly, in recent days, a gunman opened fire on an ICE Facility in Dallas.   "Just days after the vile terrorist attack on an ICE Dallas Facility, over 200 rioters gathered outside the Broadview Processing Center in Illinois, and some began chanting 'shoot ICE.'
