νυχθήμερον [See Stg: <G3574>]

nuchthḗmeron; gen. nuchthēmérou, neut. noun from núx <G3571>, night, and hēméra <G2250>, day. A day and night, twenty-four hours or a part of the day or night thereof as per the inclusive counting of time by the Eastern people. As a combined word it occurs only in 2 Cor. 11:25, not necessarily implying that the Apostle Paul spent exactly twenty-four hours in the depth of the sea, but it may have been only a portion of a twenty-four-hour period. In Matt. 4:2; 12:40 the two words hēmérai, days, and núktes, nights, occur separately, but like1021 nuchthḗmeron do not necessarily imply exact periods. Thus we can understand Matt. 12:40 that as Jonah was three days and three nights in the fish's belly, so our Lord stayed in the heart of the earth three days and three nights, or parts of them. The first being part of Friday; the second being a twenty-four-hour period until Saturday at the setting of the sun, and the third day would be part of Sunday from the setting of the sun on Saturday until early Sunday morning. This would make one full twenty-four-hour period and two parts of two different twenty-four-hour periods.[1]
